Meghan Markle, 37, and Kate Middleton, 36, have been at the centre of headlines for months amid rumours of a “rift” between the sisters-in-law. But, on Christmas Day, when they walked alongside each other into St Mary Magdalene Church on the Queen’s Sandringham Estate, the Duchesses showed no signs of strain. Instead the women were all smiles, as their husbands Prince William, 36, and Prince Harry, 34, walked proudly alongside them. Shutting down any rumours of a “feud”, the women made sure their outfits did all the talking, with the ladies opting for two equally stylish yet very differing ensembles.
While Catherine wore head-to-toe crimson, with a tailored longline coat which had a velvet collar and pockets, Meghan rocked a V-neck Victoria Beckham dress and a long navy coat to match.
Kate’s coat was a Catherine Walker number – a designer the Duchess of Cambridge often wears and is a huge fan of.
The Christmas Day church service was Meghan’s first official attendance since she became part of the Royal Family after marrying Prince Harry in May.
Last year the Duchess of Sussex wore a very trendy ensemble of knee-high Stuart Weitzman boots with tan leather gloves to match, and a Chloe bag to complete the high-fashion look.
Kate’s 2017 Christmas outfit was just as eye-catching, as she rivalled Meghan’s designer number with a Miu Miu tartan coat.
But this year Meghan looked much more demure in her Victoria Beckham dress, while Kate looked equally as classy in her crimson get-up.
The women appeared to be much more in-sync with their outfit choices this year, no doubt swapping their fashion plans ahead of Christmas Day.
Each of the ladies also wore a chic piece of headwear for the Christmas outing, but the accessories were perfectly matched to their differing styles.
While Kate chose a vintage-style velvet headband to show off her perfectly-curled locks, Meghan styled her outfit with a chic ombre-feathered fascinator to match her dress.
Meghan also wore Victoria Beckham footwear, choosing a stylish pair of long black boots, while Kate completed her look with towering red stilettos.
The Duchesses and their families will soon be celebrating the New Year, with Kate and William likely to spend the evening with her parents.
While Kate and William have alternated some years as to where they spend Christmas, it is suggested they will continue this way for the next few years with Sandringham remaining a Christmas affair.
This means they will most likely be seeing Kate’s parents for New Year this year.
Meanwhile, for Meghan and Harry this year marks their first as a married couple, with it being Meghan’s first Royal Christmas as the Duchess of Sussex.
Last year, the pair flew by British Airways to Monaco to see in the new year together.
This year however it is suggested the pair will remain in Sandringham with the rest of the Royal Family.
It will also be their last Christmas as just a couple with their first child due in spring 2019.
