UK authorities are trying to uncover what lies behind the unexplained wealth of jailed Jahangir Hajiyev and his wife Zamira who has been living a luxurious lifestyle in London.

The 8.9 carat Cartier piece, bought at Harrods for £1.1 million was taken under the UK’s first Unexplained Wealth Order (UWO), granted by Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Mrs Hajiyeva, 55, used 35 credit cards, according to the National Crime Agency, and spent £16.3 million at Harrods between 2006 and 2016.

There were two UWOs also granted over properties worth a total of £22 million under the so called McMafia laws.

While Mr Hajiyev never earned more than £54,000 a year at the bank, the couple had vast wealth that allowed them to buy a Belgravia home for £11.5 million in cash in 2009 and a Berkshire golf course worth £10.5 million.

Last November, the NCA seized 49 items of jewellery with a value of more than £400,000 from Christie’s auction house that were being valued by Mrs Hajiyev’s daughter.
